Description: South Africa is currently preparing its Second National Communication for the UNFCCC. The component activities of this project are funded by the Global Environmental Facility (GEF). The Climate Change and Bio-Adaptation Division at the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is leading the project, in partnership with the Department of Water and Environmental Affairs. Significant progress is envisaged in the identification and filling of existing knowledge gaps, capacity building, and improved accessibility to synthesized and coherent information on climate change related issues for South Africa. The SNC will contribute to enhancing sustainable development in South Africa, particularly with respect to climate change adaptive capacity. The project will also advance public awareness of climate change related issues in South Africa.
