Sixth National Development Plan (SNDP): Zambia
Project: Incorporating climate change into Sixth National Development Plan (SNDP) of Zambia
Client: Zambian Department of Water Supply and Sanitation
Location: Zambia
Timeframe: 15—17 February 2010
In early 2010, OneWorld—through its management of the RCCP and knowledge of climate change and its impacts—influenced the Sixth National Development Plan (SNDP) of Zambia. In cooperation with the Global Water Partnership and the Zambian Water Partnership, members of OneWorld were key participants in a planning workshop for the mainstreaming of appropriate climate change responses into the Water and Sanitation section of the SNDP. OneWorld developed and proposed new text for the SNDP document, which directs national strategies on adaptation to climate variability and change. The text was then validated or modified by Zambian government sector specialists in later meetings. This new sector plan, accommodating the recommended additions and modifications, was then submitted to higher levels of government for further approval and action.
