Details: In response to a special Nigerian presidential initiative, OneWorld, as a sub contractor to Technoserve and under the auspices of CEDP, completed a pre-feasibility study, impact analysis and stakeholder engagement process aimed at commercialising the Nigerian cassava industry.
The two-month project, which culminated in a report and presentation to the client and Nigerian Government, entailed the following:
- International analysis and benchmarking of the cassava industry
- Analysis and Status Quo of the cassava industry in Nigeria
- Interviews with cassava growers
- Market analysis
- Stakeholder engagement
- Opportunity assessment of cassava commercialisation
- Analysis of agricultural development and transition
- Analysis on social impact and the formation of a development plan. (Whilst Nigerial is the worlds largest cassava producer, yields are low with more than 95% of production on a subsistence basis; hence the main focus of this study was on the socio-economic impact of cassava commercialisation
- Financing structures
- Design of a community participation structure
