Integrated energy assessment and planning in the Somerset East Region, Eastern Cape

Details: The aim of this project is to develop an integrated energy development strategy and action plan for the region. Lack of energy supply has hampered development but the aim is for the area to become as energy-independent as possible. Key project activities are:
- Analyse energy for development economics
- Identify and analyse solutions that will answer current needs and present long term answers
- Provide an Impact Analysis of the initiatives proposed on the current energy (as related to economic growth) scenario. These include: waste to energy conversion, development of biofuels, solar water heating solutions and biogas from livestock waste.
- Audit current energy supply issues
- Analyse energy efficiency opportunities
- Feasibility studies on identified priorities
